Hosting a University Event

Illinois State University provides equal opportunities and reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities and/or medical/mental health conditions to enable full participation in and enjoyment of the available benefits, services, programs and activities. Student Access and Accommodation Services will assist program units in providing accommodations for program participants.

Steps to Complete Before an Event

Complete the following steps to ensure equal participation for individuals with disabilities at your University event, workshop, public presentation, or departmental meeting.

  1. Include the appropriate accessibility statement(s) on all registration materials and program announcements, which include bulletins, flyers, brochures, letters, public service announcements, or other materials used to inform the public of the event or program.

  2. Designate a contact person within your department to answer questions or accept accommodation requests for your event. Place that contact number on all materials concerning your event.

  3. Often, there are accommodation questions/requests that your department may be able to answer or make without the assistance of Student Access and Accommodation Services. However, if you receive a request for an accommodation in which you require the assistance of Student Access and Accommodation Services, please contact us at least 5 business days prior to the event. If the request is not submitted within this timeframe, there is no guarantee that the accommodation can be placed.
